Who we are and what we do .............
Our youth program focuses on the instruction of outdoor skills, leadership, knowledge, & teamwork through a traditional Boy Scout Program. Monthly activities vary from campouts, hiking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, rock climbing, etc. When and where we meet .......... Monday 7-8:30 p.m., Baptist Church at 304 Schmitt Lane. We tend to follow the school calendar, meeting end of August through June observing GHMS school holidays and snow days. Boys are responsible for .......... Attending meetings and functions in Scout Uniforms (sold at Harris Uniform & the Scout Office), Handbook, annual dues, participating in the occasional fund raiser, displaying conduct as listed in Scout Oath and Law, contributing in the weekly programs, their cost in activities. Weekly programs consist of ......... The weekly programs consist of planning sessions by the boys arranging the next activities, time for learning or teaching other traditional Scout skills (knots, fire building, first-aid, etc. ) and advancement. Advancement consists of ......... The Scout Advancement program is a building block process consisting of 7 levels in which the boy demonstrates knowledge, Scout skills, leadership, and Scout Spirit. Boys are responsible for their progression though the program and maintaining their Boy Scout Handbook. Parent participation ......... Parents are asked to encourage the boys through the advancement program. In addition, your input in the Troop programs are needed. We require a minimum of two adults at every meeting and program. We are looking for parents with knowledge or interest in teaching the Boys, we also need drivers on outings, and we hold parent info meetings monthly. |
